Waseca, Minnesota Chicago & North Western Depot
Waseca, Minnesota Chicago & North Western Depot
Waseca Minnesota's red brick Chicago & North Western Depot was built in 1912 to replace the 1887 Union Depot that was destroyed by fire. CNW had shared the old depot with the Minneapolis & St. Louis railroad, but after it burned each railroad built a new depot.
Beginning in 1936, it was a stop on CNW’s Minnesota 400 (not to be confused with the Twin Cities 400 that ran between St. Paul and Chicago). The Minnesota 400 connected several Minnesota cities including Winona, Rochester, Owatonna and Mankato.
From 1986 through most of 2008 the depot was used by the CNW’s successor, the Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern (DM&E). Canadian Pacific has used it for freight operations since 2008 after it absorbed the DM&E into its system.
Further information and history about this depot has been hard to come by.
